it's all a misrepresentation & a fraud.
why would anyone care about THAT site (or any other), whether or not you are paying?
Besides, i don't see why anonymity/privacy freaks would go to a junk dating site.
If the ultimate goal is a meeting, then they have to come in the open; if they can't or won't, don't waste your time.
i never used THAT website, but had similar experiences elsewhere (nobody solicited membership renewal, though ).
